DuPont and AUSVEG today announced a new strategic partnership to collaborate on issues specific to the horticulture industry, including joint research and development, and marketing programs.

The announcement was jointly made by AUSVEG CEO, Richard Mulcahy and DuPont Business Director, Crop Protection Graeme Iggo.

DuPont Crop Protection is part of the global Agriculture and Nutrition business of DuPont, serving Australian vegetable growers with a range of crop protection products and a steady pipeline of innovative new products planned for the next decade.

AUSVEG is the national peak industry body representing the interests of 9,000 Australian vegetable and potato growers.

Graeme Iggo says the partnership looks set to bring significant benefits to both partners, and to growers.

‘Our company seeks to build a close relationship with AUSVEG growers as we look to better understand the market and how our new chemistry can best serve the horticultural growers of Australia,’ Mr Iggo said.

‘We are proud to be in this new partnership with DuPont, whose products play a major role in improving the livelihood and productivity of more than 120,000 Australian farmers, their communities and the wider population,’ said Richard Mulcahy.

‘DuPont has a long and proven history of supporting Australian growers and this partnership is yet another indication of their commitment to our industry.’

AUSVEG Chairman John Brent also welcomed the partnership, noting the potential benefits to the horticultural industry.

‘The AUSVEG Board is extremely excited by this partnership. It will be of huge benefit to the $3.7 billion wholesale Australian vegetable industry and DuPont enjoys a solid reputation in horticulture,’ Mr Brent said.

Research and development as well as marketing initiatives will also form a key focus for the partnership with DuPont becoming involved in a number of industry events planned to take place over the next 12 months.

In particular, DuPont will play a key role in the inaugural AUSVEG National Convention and Trade Show, and National Awards for Excellence scheduled to be held in Queensland in May 2010.
