Gold Coast, Queensland – Bayer has taken out the AUSVEG Innovation Partner Award, proudly sponsored by Boomaroo, at the 2016 National Awards for Excellence – the most respected awards within Australian horticulture. The announcement was made tonight during a Gala Dinner event at RACV Royal Pines on the Gold Coast.

Bayer has received the award in recognition for its commitment to the research and development of sustainable solutions in the areas of biochemistry, biotechnology and seeds.

“Bayer is one of the most important agribusinesses for Australian horticulture growers, and has a reputation for being innovative and committed to ensuring sustainable agriculture is practiced throughout Australia,” said AUSVEG National Marketing Manager Nathan McIntyre.

“Bayer is an integral part of the Australian horticulture supply-chain that offers solutions for growers in a wide variety of areas, including crop protection, pest control, seeds and plant biotechnology. Bayer has been directly involved in improving the productivity and profitability of the industry and is a worthy winner of this award.”

The 2016 National Horticulture Convention, with seven industry co-hosts, is the largest event in Australian horticulture, making the Awards for Excellence the industry’s night of nights.

AUSVEG is the leading horticultural body representing Australia’s 9,000 vegetable and potato growers.

Boomaroo is a world-class vegetable seedling producer assisting in the productivity of the industry by supplying around 300 million seedlings to growers across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia. The Innovation Partner Award recognises a business which has developed a new solution that directly benefits growers by improving productivity. The business must also have significantly contributed in a positive fashion to the Australian vegetable or potato industries, and shown a commitment to improving the industry’s productivity.

“These awards celebrate those who lead by example. Bayer has been an industry leader for a long time and we look forward to seeing what else it can offer growers in years to come,” said Mr McIntyre.
