Radishes are a salad vegetable that people often claim to love or hate with no in between. They have a fantastic strong peppery flavour and are mostly used sliced thinly in salads or stir-fries. Although some die-hard fans of the radish, love to crunch through them whole.

There are many varieties of radishes but the most common type in Australia are round red radishes which are also referred to as Cherry Belles or Scarlet Globes.

Radishes vary in strength of flavour depending on the type of soil and season. They are mildest in flavour when harvested in spring. Radishes should be purchased with the leaves still attached and can be stored successfully in the fridge for several days.
