  • Total production of 41 vegetables in 2007/08 rose 4.6% from the previous year.
  • Potatoes are the dominant crop accounting for 40% of measured output in 2007/08.
  • Tomatoes, carrots and onions were the next most important accounting for 10.9%, 7.8% and 7.2% respectively.
  • The top 10 vegetables accounted for 84% of total production in 2007/08.
  • 18 vegetables accounted for 1% or more of total production.
  • These 18 vegetables accounted for 95% of total production.
  • The biggest increases in production in 2007/08 among the top 18 were tomatoes (29%), onions (20%), and potatoes (16%).
  • The biggest declines were lettuce (38%), sweet potatoes (22%), and rock & cantaloupe melons (13%).
