The number of vegetable farms rose slightly to 6360 in 2007/08, but remains well below the total of 6517 in 2005/06.
61% of growers are on establishments of less than 50 hectares and 72% on establishments of less than 100 hectares.
The number of growers on farms of less than 100 hectares rose by 1% in 2007/08 to 4602.
The number of farms of more than 500 hectares rose by 10.4% in 2008/09 to 488.
