  • The number of growers in Tasmania rose by 9.8% in 2007/08. New South Wales recorded an increase of 5.3% and there were small increases in Queensland and Western Australia of 2.2% and 1.6% respectively.
  • The number of growers in 2007/08 declined in South Australia and Victoria with falls of 14.1% and 5.3% respectively.
  • Queensland and New South Wales have the largest number of growers with 1670 and 1620 establishments respectively. Together these two states account for 52% of the total. Victoria is in third position with 1045 establishments, 16.4% of the national total.
  • The other three states each have approximately 640-660 establishments, just above 10% of the national total.
